An Artful Celebration at The Stonehurst

There’s something special about a wedding day when every detail comes together to reflect the couple’s personality. At The Stonehurst in Shadow Hills, just outside Sun Valley, this celebration brought together vibrant florals, beautiful artwork, and lush greenery for a reception that felt both artistic and inviting. Although the weather threatened rain throughout the day, we made the most of a fair-weather window to bring the couple’s vision to life.
A Ceremony Setup Beneath the Clouds
Our day began with a quick stop to deliver the personal flowers to the wedding coordinator before heading over to the ceremony space. With three pedestals of varying heights, each topped with its own floral arrangement, the ceremony design created a beautiful sense of dimension without overwhelming the space.
With a team of three, we had everything in place in no time. Once the ceremony was ready, we moved on to the reception, where the real transformation was just beginning.

Colorful Florals Meet an Art-Inspired Reception
The reception setup called for plenty of attention to detail. Each table needed three bud vases in small, medium, and large sizes, paired with a set of three candles. Repeating this combination across the tables created a cohesive look while allowing the individual arrangements to feel effortless and organic.
The flowers featured a lively palette of oranges, pinks, and reds, which complemented the couple’s framed artwork displayed throughout the reception space. With pieces by artists such as Monet among the collection, the artwork brought an additional layer of personality to the room. The warm floral colors felt right at home alongside the art, creating a reception design that was colorful, expressive, and uniquely theirs.

Bringing the Pillars to Life with Greenery
One of the most hands-on parts of the day was dressing the pillars lining the reception pathway. The goal was to make each pillar appear as though it had been naturally wrapped in climbing vines, bringing a touch of garden-inspired greenery into the space.
Armed with two six-foot ladders and plenty of silk greenery, we began by bending the stem of a long piece and hooking it over the top of each pillar. From there, we added Command hooks lower down to secure additional greenery and build out the design.
Of course, creating a natural look meant figuring out how to conceal the hardware. We experimented with different techniques, including using wire to suspend extra greenery over the hooks. My personal favorite solution was using small orchid clips to attach shorter pieces of greenery directly over the Command hooks. It was a simple but effective way to hide the mechanics while keeping the installation looking full and organic.
Once the silk greenery was in place, we incorporated the remaining fresh Italian ruscus, adding another layer of texture and natural movement. The finished pillars looked beautifully intertwined with greenery, creating a lush pathway that tied the reception design together.

A Quiet Afternoon Before the Celebration
With the major setup complete, we had about two hours before returning for the evening changeover. We went our separate ways for a little while, and I headed home to enjoy a cup of coffee with my dog as the weather shifted between gloomy skies and on-and-off rain.
It was a welcome moment to slow down before heading back to the venue around 4:30 p.m. Wedding days are full of movement and little details, so having a short break before the final setup is always appreciated.
From Ceremony Florals to Reception Details
Back at The Stonehurst, we waited patiently for the ceremony to conclude and for the bridal party to finish their photographs. Then it was time for the final transformation.
We carefully brought the floral arrangements and two of the ceremony pedestals inside to be repurposed throughout the reception space. The third arrangement found its new home on the sweetheart table, giving the couple a beautiful floral focal point for their celebration.
Repurposing ceremony flowers is one of our favorite ways to make wedding florals work harder throughout the day. Pieces that frame the ceremony can take on a new life at the reception, allowing the same flowers to be enjoyed in a completely different setting.
After the final adjustments, we stepped back to admire the finished space. The colorful bud vases, glowing candles, art-filled tables, and greenery-wrapped pillars all came together to create a celebration that felt personal from beginning to end.
As we headed out, we caught a glimpse of the happy couple enjoying their special day — a lovely way to end a full day of designing, problem-solving, and bringing their vision to life.
Until next time, The Stonehurst!
